Summer in Louisiana

Sometimes, the stories about dreaded road trips and visits with the in-laws are not at all what one is led to believe. I for one, have an awesome story to share about a time I went to Louisiana this past July with the kids, my husband and my mother-in-law.

The journey began with a pit stop at the closest McDonalds before leaving so the kids could enjoy HappyMeals, the ones with the toys for boys, of course.

No sooner than their bellies were full, the kids passed out as we hit the road. I fell asleep only a few minutes later… Yes, they get it from their momma.

As if an alarm clock was mounted to the dashboard, we all woke up approximately 30 minutes before arriving to our destination.

Unfortunately, it was too late in the night to offer any pleasantries, although we were super excited to see our family. We decided to visit family the following day. That day, we woke up and began to make our rounds.
First up was Grandma and Aunt Helen, then Aunt Janet. We spent about an hour reminiscing with Grandma and Aunt Helen. Jacob has his mind focused on playing with a stool while Caleb enjoyed the time with his elders.

We dedicated the rest of the day at Aunt Janet's house. There, to my surprise some toys were waiting exclusively for Caleb and Jacob. I’d found out my mother-in-law had been shopping for them, so they could have some things when they came to visit. Brilliant! A canopy wagon, some building blocks, and a swing for Jacob kept the boys busy. Jacob loved the swing, and I did too as it almost put him to sleep. The boys had more fun as they took in a ride in the canopy wagon before we left.

The next day the kids resumed playing in the backyard with the tractor, and new playmate, Peaches the Chihuahua. I love Peaches! She was there for me when I was pregnant with Caleb. She kept me company. We used to sit and chill in the guest room.

My mother-in-law and I decided to take the kids to McDonalds for ice cream. I took photos of some interesting sites of the local scene on the way to Mickey Ds.

Needless to say the boys were happy with their ice cream treats. Jacob kept fussing because i wasn't feeding him fast enough so I gave up the spoon so he could try feeding himself. Big brother Caleb was quick to eat his ice cream. When he finish he asked for my cone, and when he finished that he asked for my mother-in-law's! This child and his love for ice cream, you’d think it was his first time eating the dessert! Had the audacity to cop an attitude, when we told him he couldn't have anymore.

The following found hubby and I (after sleeping in) with the kids outside on the porch to play with bubbles.

Playing got them tired so we went inside to get some sleep. I long for days like this.

However, I couldn't sleep so I stayed up and did some doodling.

The next thing I knew it was 5:00…am! I went outside to watch the sunrise. Not paying attention to my surroundings, I got caught by surprise when walking through the walkway next to the house... FROGS! They were everywhere. They easily creep me out, so I ran inside. I managed to grab my zoom lens to get some photos before I couldn't take it anymore. They were hopping along the side and front of the house.

A few hours after the froggy episode, we left out to see cousin Tanisha for her birthday. We all met up at Aunt Janet's house. Caleb and Jacob got to see many more of the family. I’m talking fried fish, pasta, garlic bread, and cake! Cake makes Caleb hyper so after eating a big piece he was in the mood to dance.

On our last day in Louisiana we took the kids out to the backyard to play in the pool. They were so happy and not even an ice cream cone could have gotten them out of that pool.

Kodjoe (my father-in-law’s pitbull) was outside with us, safely secured in case he got too excited around the babies, and me! This dog really scares me, but I must admit he is a gorgeous dog. I took a few snapshots of him.

I hope you’ve adored my story of our family trip to Louisiana. Caleb remembered alot because he'd previously spent a full week out there by himself last year. This was Jacob's first time seeing the other side of our family. We really enjoyed seeing everyone and hope to visit again.
